10.28 Cancelling Reports

Cancelling Long Running Reports

Some reports can take an exceptionally long time to process. This can be the result of querying the database for a large volume of data or the report having to process many records. If you run a report and find that it is taking too long to process you might want to cancel it. This lets you wait till later to run the report (when you have more time), or redesign the report to be more efficient. Crystal Reports can be set up so that you can cancel a report before it’s finished printing. To use this functionality, open the Database Options dialog box by selecting Report > Options and clicking on the Database tab. Select the option Perform Query Asynchronously. When the report starts running, you can cancel the request by clicking the stop button (it has a red “X” on it) located next to the Refresh button on the Preview tab.
