14.09 Setting the Map Text

Setting the Map Text

The last step of creating a map is setting the text. You can set the map title and change the text above the map legend. The Text tab is the third tab of the Map Expert.

This is a pretty simple tab without many options on it. The first option is the Map Title. This displays the title in the top center of the map. Below the Map Title is the Legend section. You can set the size of the legend as well as the text that is displayed. You are allowed two lines to display information.

Although putting the map title in the top center of the map is a perfectly good location for the title, it can sometimes get in the way as you zoom in on different countries and move the map around. For an example of how the map title initially looks, see Figure 14-13.

Rather than putting the title on the Map Title, I prefer putting it with the map legend instead. This locates the title to the side of the map and doesn’t run the risk of blocking any important geographical data as the user navigates around the map. Not only that, but you can show a title and sub-title.
