14.14 Resolving Unmatched Map Areas

Resolving Unmatched Map Areas

When choosing the field to map to the Geographical Area section in the Map Expert, you have to make sure that the data in that field is going to be what Crystal Reports expects. The names of cities, states and countries have to be exact. If there is any incorrect data, or something isn’t spelled right, then Crystal Reports has no idea where to map the data. To correct this, there is a dialog box that lets you specify which data belongs to which geographical areas. The Resolve Map Mismatch dialog box is shown in Figure 14-16.

Figure 14-16. The Resolve Mismatch dialog box makes corrections.

To open this dialog box, right-click on the map and select the menu option Resolve Mismatch. When the dialog box opens, click on the second tab, Resolve Mismatch. The top portion of the dialog box is where you fix the problem names. The list on the left side is the existing data in your table that doesn’t have a matching name for the current map view. The list on the right side is all the possible names that Crystal Reports has in its database for the current map view. The list at the bottom is all the names in the table that are correctly matched with a corresponding geographical area.

To match names on the map, scroll through the list on the left side and click on the item that needs matching. Then scroll through the list on the right and find the area that it should be matched with. Click the Match button to match them up and they are added to the list of matched items at the bottom. If you match up two items and later decide this isn’t correct, then click on the appropriate row in the bottom list and click the Unmatch button. This removes them from the bottom list and puts them back at the top in the list of unmatched items.
